M2.9 LED used at the Transformers Q&A event

CHALLENGE

The world-famous Transformers franchise were putting on a fan Q&A event at the stunning St Bartholomew-the-Great Church in London as part of the release of the new Transformers film.

The brief for the event included a large seamless display which would be playing a trailer of the newest film in the series. There would then be a Q&A session with the cast of the movie, so the screen needed to be able to play still, branded background content as well as fast, action packed video footage.

The venue, which featured as a location in the movie, offered a high ambient light environment so it demanded a screen that could compete and produce high brightness on a large scale.

INSIGHT

Light Fantastic Production Services, trade supplier to the live event, exhibition, and television industries, were tasked with providing all lighting, audio, video & scenic elements, including sourcing the display to the specification of their clients Limited Edition Event Design.

The specification for the screen demanded that it could play the content in high resolution, on a seamless canvas without any disruption to content. With the first row of audience seated no more than 3 metres away from the screen Light Fantastic knew that they wanted LED and that it should be a 2.9mm pixel pitch product.

Light Fantastic got in touch PSCo, trade only AV rental provider, to supply the LED and associated rigging infrastructure.

WHAT WE DID

The final solution included 90 panels of the Absen M2.9 2.9mm pixel pitch LED. The screen was set up into a massive 7.5m x 3m display, in a 15 x 6 formation. The screen delivered larger than HD resolution – perfect for the content being showcased – with a viewing distance of less than 3 metres.

The LED wall was ground stacked using PSCo’s flexible mounting solution, ProStack.

Light Fantastic had worked with PSCo previously on multiple jobs and members of their team has previously visited the PSCo Assessment Centre to attend the Absen ACE training course, to become qualified Absen engineers. They had also visited PSCo at a Technology Showcase earlier in the year, where they had seen the M2.9 set up in application.

Francesca Evans, Senior Account Manager, at PSCo, commented: “It was great to work with Light Fantastic again – they are a really valued partner to PSCo and it was fantastic to work on such an exciting project with them. The M2.9 was the perfect product for the event as it provided high resolution at a short viewing distance!”

RESULT

Rob Myer, Director at Light Fantastic, said: “PSCo worked with us to provide the perfect solution for the event. We knew what type of product we needed and they provided not only a fantastic display, but the technical support and assistance to go with it, to ensure the event ran smoothly. Thank you to the team for all of your hard work!”
